What Is SCADA at a Water Plant?

SCADA stands for supervisory control and data acquisition. Its display may show pump status, tank level, filter operation, chemical feed, alarms, and trends. A controller gathers signals and may start equipment or move a valve under a designed sequence. The screen is a useful map, but it is not the entire plant. A failed sensor, bad communication link, or wrong valve indication can create a picture that does not match the field. Operators use local checks and procedures when a reading is surprising. They also know which settings they are authorized to change. Any control change should have a reason, a record, and a follow-up check. Access to these systems is restricted because they affect real water and equipment.
