What Is CCTV Sewer Inspection?
Closed-circuit television lets operators see pipe conditions that cannot be judged from the surface.
A CCTV system usually includes a camera, lights, cable reel, controls, and recording equipment. A crawler moves through larger pipes, while push cameras inspect smaller lines. The pipe is often cleaned first so deposits do not hide the wall. The operator records the correct starting structure, direction, distance, pipe size, and observations. Roots, cracks, holes, offsets, deposits, protruding laterals, active leaks, and standing water may appear. Camera speed and view matter. Moving too fast can miss a defect; dirty water or fogged lenses can create a false picture. The crew protects the cable from traffic and sharp edges and keeps hands clear of the reel. Video supports decisions, but trained review and complete records are needed before rating condition or planning repair.
