Why Does Clearwell Level Matter?
Clearwell level shows the balance between water coming in from treatment and water leaving for distribution.
A low clearwell does two things. It shortens contact time, so CT can drop, and it leaves less reserve if a filter goes down. Watch CT whenever level falls below its normal band. A high clearwell is safer for CT, but it has overflow limits and can slow turnover.
Read level together with inflow, outflow, pump operation, valves, and demand. A steady level can mean balanced flow or a frozen signal. A falling level can be planned or a problem, depending on the situation.
Use your plant's operating bands and response points. Check level with an independent reading when it behaves oddly. Tell distribution staff the expected trend, the reserve you have, and your next step.
Key point: A low clearwell cuts contact time and reserve, so watch CT when level drops.
