What Is a Pump Drawdown Check?
A drawdown check measures how much liquid a chemical pump actually moves in a set time.
Many systems use a calibration column connected to the pump suction. The operator safely fills the column, places valves in the correct positions, runs the pump for a measured time, and notes the change in volume. The exact steps come from the facility procedure.
The result can be changed into a feed rate. That rate can be compared with the pump setting and expected dose. A large difference may point to air in the suction line, worn check valves, a plugged line, weak chemical, a leak, or another problem.
Chemical exposure is possible during this check. Wear the required PPE, confirm the valve path, and never open a pressurized line. Return every valve to its correct operating position when the test is complete.
