What Is Dissolved Oxygen (DO)?
DO tells how much oxygen is dissolved in the water at the measured place and time.
Oxygen In The Water
Dissolved oxygen is oxygen present within water and available for biological activity. It is different from air bubbles that can be seen rising through an aeration basin. A DO result describes a measured condition at a particular place and time.
Why Operators Measure It
Aerobic treatment organisms use oxygen while processing wastewater. Operators compare DO with aeration status, loading, flow, and other process observations. One DO number does not diagnose the process or create a universal adjustment.
Keep The Context
Record the result with its units, location, time, temperature when required, and relevant operating condition. A basin reading, final-effluent reading, and BOD-bottle reading answer different questions even when all are reported as dissolved oxygen.
